The spouse of a US citizen may apply to become a US citizen after 3 years of permanent residency. A lawful permanent resident, not married to a US citizen may apply after 5 years of permanent residency.The process to apply for US citizenship is called Naturalization. The fees needed to apply with form N-400 are as follows:

Biometrics: $85

Once the Naturalization petition has been submitted, one to two months later, the applicant is
required to go to a USCIS office for fingerprinting and to have an ID photo taken. This is called

Naturalization Application Fee: $640

This fee together with the biometrics fee, is sent along with your application.

Total Cost for Naturalization

Biometrics: $ 85
Application Fee: $640

Total: $725
